Kooks dont vary in how they fit like qtps do. Plus if you buy a used early set watch out for workmanship/quality issues. I think kooks are better.

I've had the same question recently....QTP or Kooks. Prices are relatively close until you consider the merge collectors on the QTPs. Are they worth the additional $500? I can't see it. I'd like to squeeze every ounce of power out of the new setup but, DAMN!

If I recall, the Kooks come with a similarily designed collector without the sticker shock? Anyone have pics?

I found my QTP's cheaper than Kooks anywhere on the interweb. That was by maybe 50$. But im sure I could be proven wrong somewhere though.

I searched this board for a long time wondering the same thing and the consensus has been QTP and Kooks are damn near identical and both install and fit as good or better than any other brand.

I'm voting QTP because i have them. I imagine you'll be hard pressed to find someone that has installed both, unless they are an installer.. or severely loaded $$$.

Bottom line.
Both stainless steel
Both good quality welds
Both good collectors and turb spikes
Both can be polished to look really nice
Both have claimed to never rust even at the welds(at least once by the sales reps on this board, from my searching)

And also, from what I've read, (correct me if I'm wrong) you would want to consider stepped if your getting more CI.
1 3/4 if staying stock cubed and most bolt ons and/or small to semi large cams.

Also the sticky in this section is good for all this info.

DJ

p.s. if you want pics of anything QTP 1 3/4 race style, I have them and or can take them.

I woul consider this set of headers and y pipe

https://ls1tech.com/forums/generation-iii-external-engine/405299-edelbrock-fully-welded-headers-pics.html

I think the headers are 400 bucks. Not stainless but some kind of Ti-Tech coating.

The y pipe has a good merge.

Whick are easier to install.

I don't know of any good exhaust shops here and don't want to have to have my Y pipe expanded to slip on headers and run the risk of having it F-ed up.

what kind of Y do you have? You can custom order headers with what ever type of fitment you want on them.

I had my first baby boy about a year ago and needed headers that were cheap and good for a lowered car. I went with Headman stepped headers. They were not coated, but I bought the VHT coating at Autozone and painted them myself. then baked the coating on them in the car. The headers were $229 with free shipping from jegs. I had no problem puttin on from the top in my garage. I just lifted the engine up and BAM they were in. As far as quality goes, as cheap as they were and as easy to install I would do it again. I has an slp Y-pipe that the guys at the muffler shop made work.
Good luck and congrat's
