Default o2 sensor problem

my o2 sensors on my 98 ta go bad every 20-30k.
they started acting up again...hesitation, black smoke, unburned fuel smell, ect.
the wiring harness came off the sensor and i found ALL of my performance issues gone. it is the drivers side, front headers.

i put the wire back on and the same isses as before.

any thoughts?

Have you had a tune? I got a tune a few months back and all I have is bolt ons.

From reading your first post, it sounds like you did not get the connector all the way on. Then found it and corrected the problem.

What brand 02 are you using?
I have read that the Bosch pn# 13111 is the corvette rear that works on the f-body front, and is even a better 02. I am fixing to switch to this one myself.

You have a bad O2 sensor. By unplugging it, you force the car to run in open loop with a fixed map. So it will run okay, just rich. With a bad O2, it gets crazy readings and moves the closed loop map all over the place.

As to your original question about why your sensors go bad so frequently, I have the same problem, and no solutions...

i had the same problem with mine. i unplugged it today actually and ran like a champ. if it runs fine but rich why would you go out and buy new ones that cost $75 a piece and replace them every so often when you could just keep em unplugged?
