Default overheating problem

got home from college and picked up my car friday evening, drove it all night and all day saturday, and then saturday night the temp gauge hits 260. pulled off the highway and looked under the hood, no coolant was leaking at all, fans were also running. after it cooled down i tried to drive it a block and it overheated again. so while idling i loosened the bolt for the bleed line for the coolant into the block and air bubbles started coming out.

anyone have any idea what my problem could be?? radiator is filled with coolant so its not that problem, and there wasnt anything like a bag that got sucked unto the radiator to block it. thanks alot!

Try replacing your thermostat. Hopefully that's your problem. It's the easiest and cheapest.

but if their is air coming out of that bleed valve and, but no apparent leaks or holes in the hoses, could that be an indication that theres something wrong internally? like maybe a head gasket?

Water boils at 212, so depending on your water/coolant ratio there might be air in the system if it the water started to boil. A stuck/bad thermostat would definantly cause your car to overheat, because that's not letting any water to the engine. It might be the head gasket, but before I jumped to a head gasket being blown, I would start at the cheapest and easiest point,THE THERMOSTAT!

hopefully it does bro, If you didn't have the 160 stat before hopefully you have an HPP3 or something to tell the PCM about the stat. If not the coolant will be circulating and getting hot, long before the fans come on to cool it back down. End result, the engine will get hot because all the coolant is hot.
