Ways to kill drone on a SLP LMII Cat-back
I have a LMII on my '00 Convertible Z28. I'm not totally content with this system due to the drone at steady throttle.
Love the idle.
Happy with the WOT.
Hate rolling into the throttle like when steadily accelerating or cruising on the highway. Too much drone for me.
Now before some smartaleck comes in and says "well they do call it LOUDmouth..." I've had stock, flowmaster, slp 2otl's before on my old LT1. The flowmaster was actually my favorite sound but as is well known they don't flow well so I didn't go there with this car. I ended with the 2otl, but it was so quiet, it hardly seemed worth it. I wanted something rowdier.
I figured the LMI would be too much, and supposedely the LMII was SLP's answer to the ever common Borlamouth. But I still think the drone is too much.
What's the best way to tackle this?
Has anyone gone from the LMII muffler to a Borla XR? I know lots have gone LMI to Borla, but I need specificaly LMII to Borla. Not much info on that.
Are there mufflers that I can SWAP in to evaluate, using clamps? I don't want to weld because then I'm stuck with it.
Can I make inserts of some sort? I've thought about maybe a couple little restrictor plates in either set of tips might help change it up.
Is there a certain area to dynamat that is really effective?
All the references I've seen mention having the XR-1 welded in. I think this is probably because people are retrofitting the older LMI's before they went modular.
Will an XR-1 be a clamp-in swap? If I can try it out this way I'm all over it.
If it works I'd sell the LMII bullet for about $55, depending upon shipping. It'd be pretty heavy.
Also just to verify, borlamouth sounds like a Magnaflow setup?
