Default Ways to kill drone on a SLP LMII Cat-back

Hello all,

I have a LMII on my '00 Convertible Z28. I'm not totally content with this system due to the drone at steady throttle.

Love the idle.
Happy with the WOT.
Hate rolling into the throttle like when steadily accelerating or cruising on the highway. Too much drone for me.

Now before some smartaleck comes in and says "well they do call it LOUDmouth..." I've had stock, flowmaster, slp 2otl's before on my old LT1. The flowmaster was actually my favorite sound but as is well known they don't flow well so I didn't go there with this car. I ended with the 2otl, but it was so quiet, it hardly seemed worth it. I wanted something rowdier.

I figured the LMI would be too much, and supposedely the LMII was SLP's answer to the ever common Borlamouth. But I still think the drone is too much.

What's the best way to tackle this?

Has anyone gone from the LMII muffler to a Borla XR? I know lots have gone LMI to Borla, but I need specificaly LMII to Borla. Not much info on that.

Are there mufflers that I can SWAP in to evaluate, using clamps? I don't want to weld because then I'm stuck with it.

Can I make inserts of some sort? I've thought about maybe a couple little restrictor plates in either set of tips might help change it up.

Is there a certain area to dynamat that is really effective?

Actually dude, you should have went with the LM1's if you were worried about drone. I've had LM1', 2' and finally borla stingers on my Mach 1 and the lm1's by far had the least amount of drone. They were just so damn loud that you couldn't stand it. Also one thing to consider is that The XR1 mufflers will sound exactly like a Magnaflow setup on your car, trust me my buddy has already gone that route and now I'm trying to sell the muffler on here.

The xr1 was a cure all for a friend of mines 01 z28 a4. he went from the LMII to the xr1 muffler and said it helped the drone. If you are intrested sell me your LMII bullet to help offset the cost of the XR1 muffler. his manifolds were also stock and had cats

I'm totally stock too. Can the XR-1 be bolted right up with the same clamps? It looks like it is about an inch and a half longer, but I could trim that down pretty easy.

All the references I've seen mention having the XR-1 welded in. I think this is probably because people are retrofitting the older LMI's before they went modular.

Will an XR-1 be a clamp-in swap? If I can try it out this way I'm all over it.

If it works I'd sell the LMII bullet for about $55, depending upon shipping. It'd be pretty heavy.

Also just to verify, borlamouth sounds like a Magnaflow setup?

The Borla 40085 inlet/outlet will slide over a 3" exhaust pipe. A quick look at Borla's site shows a 15" case length. The piping on either end is probably about 2" either way, but this part will slide over the I pipe. That leaves you 15 " +- 2" to slide the Borla in. If not enough, get acquainted with a sawzall. HTH.

let me rephrase that, it doesn't sound just like magnaflow. but it does at the same time. The new XR-1's are not like the older versions, the old ones were like the stinger exhaust where as the new ones are "packed" like the magnaflow. That is where my buddy made the mistake is that he thought the xr-1 was like the stinger on my car and also like the xr1 muffler soundclips that he downloaded, but we were wrong.
