You dont have to but the main purpose is to help catalist efficiency during the engines warmup, I dont even think the air pump really does a whole lot once the car warms up. So you really dont need it unless you have to pass emissions and if you just pull it off you will need to have the code deleted b/c it will throw a code

The AIR system has a small pump which activates for some 20 seconds on start up, it pumps fresh air into the exhaust to promote a chemical reaction in the CATS. Once they have warmed up it is no longer required.

If you are getting an ORY then you will not have any CATS. So the AIR system will be redundant.

If you want you can remove it, or leave it. There are plenty of guides for removing, do a search and read some of them. It should give you an idea on whether you want to bother removing it or not.

If you don't have the emissions headers then there will be no where to attach it. But I'm sure you should be able to secure it, even if you don't remove it.

No cats...no AIR. yank the pump and the fuse and disconnect all the hoses.

From a jobber point of view, it is actually really easy and will help clean up the engine compartment. Yank everything that you can't connect to the headers, then go under the driverside front and remove the service panel, you will see the contraption there. Mine hasn't worked for ages after going into a deep puddle, pulled it and never looked back.

YOu will not have any ill performance issue running with the light on. If you don't like the light, get it tuned, there is a bulb in the back........

I am wrestling with the same problem, I can't decide whether to keep it or take it off, air and egr both. I ordered all the parts needed to delete it but I will have to get it tuned to clear the codes and I didn't want to. I may leave it on when I put the headers on and see what happens and if something doesn't work right I will yank it then.

If you leave the AIR system attached to your LTs you'll have that annoying valve flutter noise, like a ticking time bomb. Then, the check valves will burn out and you'll be left with an SES light anyway. Just get rid of it and live with light for a while. I did.
