LT Header Question?

Smile LT Header Question?

OK guys thinking bout getting longtubes (pacesetter). My question is after install would i need a tune and/or any other modifications to the car. I really dont wanna run too rich after that or have to pay buttloads of money for the gas bill afterwards. Let me know from people who know or have installed LT's about what does/doesnt need to be done afterward?

You'll need O2 sims for the rear O2s
As for tune or not, it depends, are you going further with modding ie heads, cam, gears, stall, etc etc, if you are, then wait till you're done, then get it tuned, if headers is all you're going to do then it's not required, but could be considered a good idea, to get everything working at its best. You'll be the best judge, if you notice a marked decrease in MPG, then maybe a tune will help, if you don't notice any difference (other than the power increase) then you likely don't need a tune

You will be more than fine on the stock tune. If you want the HP that you are leaving on the table w/out the tune then by all means get her tuned. You could pick up around 10 hp or so.

Yea thanks for the info guys, most of my friends have told me the same, that i wont need it and should wait till i got a cam or heads. I was concerned b/c i recently raced a stang an my friend was following an said i was shooting black smoke out of my tips. Im kinda worried that might be more serious than i thought. Let me know what yall think

I have another question. Do u guys feel that for a 99, roughly 6 years old and i have 66K miles on it, would it be a smart investment to purchase LT's. I plan on having the car till it dies so that might matter. Please guys give me your .02's

You'll see this especially if you have an ORY, normally the cats take care of the puff of black smoke that you get when you nail the gas pedal, but if you don't have them, then you see it.
As for whether it's smart to put LTs on a 66k 99, if it runs good, no clanking or other engine dying noises, then there should be no problems putting LTs on it. Be aware you may have to change O2 sensors more often, due to moving them from the stock locations, but that should be the only (potential) recurring issue (other than the typical y pipe banging the floor/frame rail/ k member)

i just put LTs on my 71K mile car, no problems, as far as whats needed, just as what was said before, and for tuning i didnt tune mine, just ran rich for about 200 miles(one tank of gas) and fouled out one sensor, swaped that one and i was set to go


i think for that one tank of gas where i ran rich, i calculated it out, if i remember right it was like 9 miles to the gallon

just put them on..it won't hurt your car as all headers do is help scavenge the exhaust from the engine.

Now depending on how your bottom end is I would be careful on putting heads and a cam in that car...JMHO....

you need to know that your engine was taken car of so that the bottom end is strong. Otherwise when you put the cam in and new heads on teh new added compression could make the bottom end let go.

I have seen a lot of people put H/C in a higher mileage car but I just like to do things safe

Another relative modding newb here, and I just had my new exhaust system put in yesterday. (PaceSetter LTs, TSP y-pipe, high-glow cats, and Hooker cat-back.) Is there anything I can do about the y-pipe thinking it needs to sit in my lap while I drive? It's not bad, but I'd just rather not have it hitting the underside of the car. Is there anything I can put under there between the y and the car to prevent this? Maybe some type of flame-proof/heat resistant padding? Any info appreciated.

BTW, I'd like to thank you guys. I was wondering which exhaust setup to go with, and with the help and information you guys gave me I'm very happy with the system I chose.

Thanks for the info. I have one on order as of.... <placing order>.... Now. Fourty bucks is worth it not to have the thing making my feet go numb by hitting the bottom of the car.
