Absolutely. Money is the only real reason almost anyone here would not mod their engine. A simple cam swap alone can add over 50 rwhp....who doesn't want to do that? Not to mention the lope.

I'm actually not a huge fan of lope...I enjoy my car being a complete puss. As a matter of fact, I'm gonna be painting it pink shortly.

it seems to me that a few other benefits would be that you would be less likely to break hard parts, and also have bragging rights (if you are quick enough) in beating a h/c car - whether it be from this, or another breed.

It's just a matter of time... I've done most bolt-ons already, The 4.10's are on order; Sub-frame/AdjTorqueArm/CtrlArms will be Feb. Then there's the new clutch... At some point this summer (I bought the car in 2000!) I'll finally get to Heads(AFR 205's)/Cam(F13 112+4) swap. I'm planning to replace the lifters (Stock? or Comp R's?) and rod bolts (Katech). I've got almost 90K, and I've beat on her pretty good on a regular basis. If it breaks after that, I kick myself in the butt, and buy a LS7 crate engine on credit...

That's a good one. (he lives in TEXAS!)

If I can install my cam/springs/pushrods/timing chain/oil pump by myself in my garage using www.ls1how.com instructions in 25-35* air, anybody with a inkling of mechanical ability can do the same.

I'm still "SI" cause its my only car and i drive it 90+ miles a day 6-7 days a week. I need to keep the gas milage semi decent. Right now it gets a best of 20 mpg on the highway and around 15 mpg in the city.
But in May i'm moving closer to my job and then its on like donkey kong! T rex here i come! I can't wait to hear this exhaust with a big *** lopey cam.

You'd be surprised. After the heads and cam my car gets nearly the same gas mileage as it did stock internals. Basically it gets a little less mpg in city, slow driving. On the highway it's nearly identical.

Dude please don't temp me!
I'm also currently paying for my wedding this may and have already spent WAY too much $$$ on my car after i said i was done till after the wedding. What with blowing my motor, then trashing my tranny. There went $1,300 that could have paid for my honeymoon.

Man, were you caught in the desert and the only pump was 87???? Did you let your GF put gas in, and she picked 87, thinking she was saving you $$$??? Did the gas station switch 87 & 93 in the tanks???

nope. i use about $450 in gas a month so i had a stupid idea that pumping 87 to drive around and 93 to race would save me some cash. well one time on the way to the track i forgot to put 93 in it. and the **** FAST tb i had was making my timing jump to 34* (didn't realize about this till after i put a new motor in and had it on the dyno)
**** A FAST 90mm tb!
