Default Motor Mounts

So im switching out my tranny and putting in some headers, and i thought it would be a great time to do motor mounts. So my question is, what else do i need to do this task. I guess it will be pretty simple since the tranny and exhaust manafolds will be gone. Anyone have any tips? Thanks

Thumbs up

Headers being off is a big plus, I did mine during my header install. I took my alternator and AC off of their brackets and moved them out of the way. I used flexhead gearwrenches. I bought the mounts from Thunder. Like everything on our cars, there just isn't allot of room and expect to loose some knuckle skin. I had the car up on jackstands... I put a board and a floor jack under the oilpan, and sorta moved the jack up with my foot - to get main bolts loose/back in. After you have the mounts out- drill the old mount rivets out, then pry/heat/scrape the old rubber out; insert new poly mount, the supplied bolts replace the rivots you drill out. I did one side at a time.

My motor is much tighter now, and really no bad side effects (like excessive vibration). I reccomend anyone who has their headers off to do this mod

Like the previous poster said, DEFINATELY have a 15mm gear wrench handy. A 13mm wouldn't hurt either.

I got to a lot of the top bolts with extensions and a universal joint. Might help to have those around. I had to use some Liquid Wrench knockoff to get two of the bolts free.

Other than that, there's not much else. I didn't think they were that bad in the least, but I also replaced the whole pedestal, and I had the exhaust off the car at the time. In fact I just had to do them again two hours ago (needed to replace the oil pan) and they were almost a joke this time around.

Poly motor mounts are one of the best mods you can do. Keep a note pad handy so you can jot down all the new 3 and 4 letter words you come up with.

It's very easy if the motor is out...sorry had to add this just because I had mine done when the stroker was being born. I did the grunt work but they were installed along with the motor by the shop. Im sure as previously stated by mrbobo, Zeus and TAQuickness it takes some effort when everything is still in the car...goes without saying.

I did mine with everything in the car and no gear wrenches. It was the hardest thing I have ever done and I will not do it again. That's for sure.
