With the increase is gas prices...
And the T/A being my daily
And being a poor college student
And commuting 70mi every day
And only getting 300mi/tank

Im eaither gonna need to strip her for weight reduction, figure something else out, or.... sell her.

Hard Times.

She is currently in storage right now (CND winters), and im cruising around in a 1993 Cavalier... which gets the same gas milage as the T/A... God Damn POS.

Im gonna have to gut both of them or something. I like my T/A to much to sell it...

damn my A4. M6s are more fun and they get better gas mileage, but the money I'd dish out for a new rear in an M6 would easily offset the gas savings.

I've had 3 T/A's (1 LT1 car and 2LS1 cars) and have never seen the kind of mileage I've heard of several people. My '94 M6 and my '99 A4 would do no better than about 24 on the highway and my current '02 gets just shy of 27 on the highway. My normal driving is about a 50/50 split my current car is averaging 21.7 with the 1457 gallons I've run through it which I'm pretty happy with. It get better mileage than anything else I own ('89 K1500, '97 Intrepid and '01 Sienna).

I've found the secret too, KEEP YOUR GODDAMN FOOT OUT OF IT. LOL, I always accelerate moderately. Even with my huge *** x3, I still average 18-20 with a 70/30 split (city/highway) No need to try and out accelerate other cars that just stomp the pedal everywhere they go, off a light or whatever. Drive nicely, you got nothing to prove, unless....Well you get my drift

sub 2k shifts doesnt work at all for gas mileage, trust me, ive tried everything in the damn book!! a mix of city/hwy i get 18mpg, but straight city with a stoplight every 30ft i get about 13mpg, and the car will not do better than that, i dont even get a chance to shift into 5th in the city let alone 6th like some of you, you must be in busy suburbs.

Yea, I shift at 3000 most of the time. Not because I'm going fast, it' because I just love the sound!

ya chevy though of putting in the skip shift for a reason. I have gotten 22-24 around town babing it and got 33 with out the ac on in a road trip and 32 with ac on another. I'm know to be a very tame driver though 95 % of the time. the first month after I get the car out of the garage I get about 12 mpg though just can't resist it after a couple months of no z. skip shifting also help's when driving any car including the truck's I've gotten 21mpg in my truck.

Secret to my gas mileage is I only drive my SS about 3-4K per year. At that few miles I can get into it whenever.

The best way for good mileage is to keep it in good tune, ie) fresh plugs, clean air and fuel filter, etc. I get 19 all city miles with a couple WOT romps. I usually keep the rpm's under 2500 when just cruising around. This was after the skipshift was disabled, and I never do any of that 1-3-5 stuff either.

I now get ~22mpg in the vette since I've gotten the tune down, its my daily driver... about 75% city driving, usually go WOT for a couple gears about 6-7 times per tank too. Get about 31-33 straight highway (road trips). Nice having a car that comes with an LS1 and with a weight of ~3200 with a full tank sans driver. Prolly get better mileage if I didn't have a 275/315 tire combo on it with 18" wheels. need some lightweight ccws.

Camaro gets about 16-18 in the same conditions, about 23-25 highway. It weighs about 3300lbs without me in it, same tire sizes on 17" wheels.

on LONG cruises, when I had EGR, I would get close to 30 with the AC only on part of the time.

I haven't made any long cruises since then, so I am unsure of normal highway milage, part mixed with a majority of highway, results in 22-26mpg. Normal mixed is near 17-20 per gallon.

near stock 1998 car, LS6 intake, headers, catback.

Wouldn't 4.10 gears give you better mileage cause you need less throttle to go faster?

As opposed to 4.56's and 5.11's yes.

But you would be running at a higher RPM the faster you are going, so no.
