Default Cats or no cats?

I have a 99 ecsb silverado with a 5.3. I am considering removing the cats and am looking for some advive. My current mods consist of hypertech programer, true dual 2.5 inch magnaflows, and a K&N FIPK. I was wondering If i remove the cats will I need to install O2 simulators to keep the computer from throughing codes. I would like to keep the hypertech programer because I like the fact that I can adjust for tires and all my self. Any info would be great.

Yes, you'll need sims in the rear.

If you're still running stock exhaust manifolds, be advised that removing the cats will yield 0 rwhp increase. The manifolds are a big restriction in the system and the factory cats outflow the catback. So basically, you'd be removing the highest flowing part of the exhaust and replacing it with a straight pipe. That's why there's no gain.

Now if you had headers, then the cats would become a restriction, but on a mild 5.3L, they'd only cost you 3-4 rwhp at the most.

Don't remove them ! - Besides raspy and annoying exhaust sound, you'll gain nothing !

I removed them on my '00 RCSB 5.3 and it sounded pretty good with my dumped 2-chamber Flowmaster. I can't recall any rasp, but it did sound alot better.
