Default Exempt sticker

i just bought my camaro, and before i could bring it home from the dealer, it had to be registered and inspected, which included emisions. I just noticed that my sticker for emisions say "Exempt".. none of my other cars ever said that, so i was wondering what that was all about and what it meant toward future inspections, if anything at all.

What year is the car? If its 2002, it should be exempt from emissions testing until the end of this year. New cars are exempt for 4 years. Anyone back me up on this?

it could also mean that the car was registered as a race car which would make it emissions exempt.

but would that affect me in any way? and the exhaust i have on there now is stock.. or so i believe (bought it used), does this mean that i can really put any exhaust on my car, even if it isn't street legal because my emissions arent being checked? also, should i keep taking my car to the same shop to inspect it

phillyz28 I am a PA emisions inspector. I think that new cars coming into the state can be exempted the first year. But will only be exempted for further inspections if you drive it less than 5000 miles in 1 year. If you live in philly I think they do tail pipe test overthere. I live south of harrisburg and we only do OBD testing so as long as I don't have SES light on here I am ok. Let me know if you have any other questions I will help you with any questions you have and how to work around the emisions laws

Only time mine went on was a cat inefficiency code it threw while my exhaust was still stock and just had a tune and intake done. I cleared it, it came back - then like 2 weeks later while I was driving to Vegas, it just went off and never came back on... 2 months later I got exhaust done and deleated the rear o2's so that code won't be coming back...

it does not effect you as you would have to reapply for race car exemption as you are the current owner

i know in illinois you can put any exhaust on your if you are race car exemot or have show car status

you need to contact the emissions people and ask them for a form for you to fill out.

there is most likely a mileage limit but I do not know Pen. emmissions rules.....see if they have a website you can do some searching on

If you are race car exempt, does it mean that you are no longer legal to drive on the street?

We don't have race car exempt in PA. Also new cars are only exempt for the 1st year. Your only ways tyo get an exemptiong in PA is classic or antique tags, Street rods or specalty vehicles, and operating it less than 500 miles each year
