Default 5 hours with open headers

Hey guys,

Heres a question for ya. I might be selling my x pipe locally which would leave me with open headers. The exhaust shop where I'll have the work done is 5 hours away. Will I pass out while I'm driving with open headers from the fumes? Is it really gonna be that much louder than an x pipe with dumped bullets?

Thanks,
Lane

you wont pass out, but I'd at least slip some 18" or 12" extensions on the ends before driving so you dont burn the o2s out.

why is it that the O2's burn out running open headers? I'm building a race car and i didnt feel that running further than open headers would be necessary. How long does it take typically to burn them out ?

not too long sometimes, they get too much oxygen and go bad.

and open headers usually pick up a decent amount of power with 12-18" extensions

Well I don't wanna burn out my o2 sensors. But I suppose I could replace them with the ones on my y pipe behind my cats thats sittin in the garage? I suppose those are the same type? I would just be driving with open headers with no pipe extensions. So you guys think itll be safe fumes wise? How about sound is it horribly loud?

Why not drive to the exhaust place, get the work done then bring the x-pipe back and sell it instead of having to drive there with the loudness?

What work are you having done? Why don't you just unbolt the exhaust in your drive way and sell it locally without driving anywhere?

everything inside will vibrate and rattle. the fumes shouldn't be a problem while moving, but i wouldn't sit parked for too long. i went 20 miles on open headers and it was too much. i doubt cops will appreciate the sound either.

My 0.02:
o I'd go for it. You can usually find a speed that is fairly quiet at part throttle and coast past most cops.
o If you're concerned, just pull the sensors before you go. What's two more little openings?
o You could take a big bale of steel wool along, wire a wad in each pipe and renew as needed...
o If you keep the windows shut and the blower on high, there will be no fumes inside.
o Earplugs.
o Yeah, why not get the new system first, then sell the 'X'?

somewhat off topic here, but any chance you could set a vid cam in there for awhile so we can hear it on the highway, accelerating etc???

the rear 02s and front 02s are different, if you plug in the ones behind your cats into the headers, the car will run like crap

That's gonna be a fun trip. I drove my '00 TA 2 1/2 miles to my father in laws house through all residential neighborhoods with open headers just so he could here it. 1. He heard me coming for about 45 seconds before I got there. 2. I stopped an official league soccer game.......TWICE, going to and coming back home....because everyone, players, referees and coaches, all stopped and looked to see WHAT THE **** was making all that noise. 3. EVERY dog we passed was barking. 4. Boy was it quicker on the top end, 3500 RPMS and up

Oh come on...I have a ms3 cam with a 900 rpm idle, open headers, and no carpet. Sometimes I think I hear the phone ringing and ask if anyone is going to answer it and they just look at me like i'm crazy. But other than that I'm fine
