Default vacuum leak around pcv valve boot

Where the metal ring that wraps around the pcv valve.

mine seems to leak there to what exactly is the grounding strap on the pcv for?

I think mine's leaking in that same spot. God-awful noise there when the engine's running.

I read in one service manual that it's a heat sink to warm the valve. I don't think you really need it though.

I just removed the wire and no more leak. I live in Sunny Southern Ca so no reason to have it.
