Question do you like it smooth or a little rough?

its not how it sounds....

im thinking of trying to port my throttle body and do all thoes other mods to it. i was talking to my instructor/engin builder at NTI and i asked him what flows better, mirror finish on inside of the throttle body or a dull finish (fine sand paper).

he told me the dull surface would flow better according to the flow bench and told me not to polish anything in the throttle body.
what is your 0.2 on this?

I could see how dull is better post fuel mixture for atomization, but at the TB inlet opening, far before any mixing, I'd say smoother. I'm no expert, just my opinion.

I have to agree....seems like a smooth surface would flow more air...And in the TB, thats all you should really care about...

I don't know about "polishing" it....but a nice, fine sandpaper should suffice...

You raise a good question. I've taken a few physics classes in college and remember learning how objects with a rough surface can pass more air, more quickly than objects with a smooth surface. This is why a tennis ball will move through the air quicker than a smooth ball with equal mass and size. The fuzz on the tennis ball creates a buffer between the ball and the main air stream, allowing the air to move around the ball quicker than if there was no buffer (i.e. with a smooth ball).

I'm no physicist, but this idea might be a reason for the variation in flow between a polished and unpolished TB on a flowbench.
