Louder Valve Noise With New Headers

gnbooster87...no one is trying to offend you. It's just a matter of fact that it's self-defeating to try and make more power buy adding expensive performance upgrades only to try and save by running low octane fuel. Your LS1 will perform at it's best on premium, and if peak performance isn't as important to you as saving a few bucks, well then that's your right obviously. But it's just confusing to us why you'd spend the cash for headers but not the few extra dollars for better gas?
Again, your issue may not even be knock, but if it is, that's an issue you need to fix, and the easist way to try and clear it up would be to increase octane......just stating the facts....
Of course, if it is knock, it can be caused by MANY things. You could try running colder plugs, reduce timing via tuning, do a top engine clean (seafoam), get new/bigger injectors, replace/upgrade the fuel pump, replace any one of a number of sensors that may be aging, etc., etc...... but that all costs money, and it's hard to pinpoint where to start unless you're getting a SES light to check or have a scanner to watch a host of different parameters (fuel trims, timing, O2s, etc.). The small amount of extra cash for a few tanks of premium would be much cheaper and might be all it takes.

This is no different. Let's be realistic here though, how much $$ are you REALLY saving? $3/tank. That's pennies compared to having some serious motor problems if you are in fact detonating that bad you can hear it.
Other than that, when I installed my headers I noticed an EXH leak like noise. I asked around and was told that it was a normal header noise. You'll know when thee's a leak. It'll run like crap and be loud as hell.
Something to remember......A constant hissing type noise is a leaky collector. A seperate, ticking, pulsing noise is most likely a loose header bolt or a bad gasket.
87 octane is designed for cars w/ a lower compression ratio. You run the risk of detontion using lower grade gas. (Total out the cost of the headers alright) The 93 octane is designed to light at a higher temprature... (or is it the other way around?? I might have effed that up...)
