aftermarket air lid help
I've been hearing about how the slp lids tend to run against the underside of the hood, and was wondering if there is any other lid that doesn't rub and is a great fitting lid I can get. Also, is there a difference between a whisper lid and a regular aftermarket lid like the SLP lid? if so what are the differences and is one better than the other. sorry for the noob questions but I'm just not clear on these. thanks

There was an article in a magazine that dyno'd and tested 6 different lids in the 1/4 but I dont know the link off the top of my head. I am sure someone could point you in the right direction. My whisper does not touch the hood as far as I know.

that article was in GMHP, I believe LG won the HP shootout BUT all of them were nearly identical (not enough to make a difference). What matters is getting rid of the factory air lid and putting one of the many aftermarket lids on. SLP's is a very nice lid, IMO factory quality. alot of the others are thin ABS or injected molded plastic and seem they will shatter into 1,000,000,000 pieces if it's cold outside and u rev ur motor (stress on the lid) but they don't...so choose whatever looks the best to u or the best price

My SLP lid stopped rubbing after i trimmed off a 1/2- 5/8's of my bellow to allow everything to push in towards the t.b. tighter.
Plus when i installed it i didn't like how the 4 tabs of the lid were hanging out a little bit so i just trimmed the bellow until all 4 tabs were pushing tightly against the factory air box.
I have only seen a few other makes of air lids and i liked the SLP Better because it seemed like they used a thicker and more bendable ABS plastic than the other makes. But i agree a lid is a lid except for construction materials it's all preference.

My lid rubbed, I stuck some AC foam to the underside of the hood where it touched the lid and it stopped any scraping on the lid. I never look under the hood so I didn't care that the foam was there.

i owned a clear tsp lid before the slp. it fit perfect and looked nice, but after about a year and a half it ended up braking.
