Default K&N filters

Are K&N filters or any other high performance air filters worth the money? Is stock better? Is there no gain?

They're better than stock filters, but not better than other similar brands. I wouldn't expect any HP gains...

Do you still have the K&N? Ill buy it if you do. I have a hard problem paying $70 for an air filter. You do keep it forever though. I hear cleaning it can be a pain.

Nah I sold it a while back...I just didnt want to run the risk of over oiling it. Never really did seal right for me either.

I've never had a problem with my K & N kit; cleaning it is not that big a deal and it's easy to do. The only part I don't like is waiting for it to air dry, but that's just a couple of hours. My wife grumbles a little about cleaning red oil stains out of the shower though

Do not over oil it...

It's really easy to get right because the oil is red, and as you spray it on you can see it covering the filter. You're just trying to get the fiter completely covered so it'll be tacky every where. You're NOT trying to "heavily lubricate" the filter. If you get drips and runs wipe them or sling them off. In two years I've never had a problem using the same filter over and over, and it looks basically new each time I clean it. But I don't use a lot of water pressure cleaning it; the cleaner works fine if you let it do its job properly.

I have the SLP cai kit, and the air flows up through the hole cut for the scoop in the bottom of the air box. The area just above the scoop gets dirty fast, so I turn the filter around so the cleaner side is over the scoop, and I get twice the mileage I normally would get out of cleaning the filter. I also sealed the front of the air box.

Does it collect dirt better than the stock filter?

I doubt it, but it's supposed to breath better...Mine gets pretty dirty before I clean it.
