If search was working you'd see tons of threads about this. The stock one is good till about 500 horse I believe.I wouldnt touch it.Its been known to cause many issues.Esp if you have an auto. For everyone that it doesnt cause problems, there's probably 5 that had problems.Just to clarify, most of the problems occur when your port your maf,not descreen it.Although problems arise from descreening as well.

Just leave it unless you plan to spray a dry shot.I had mine descreened and had issues,.So I went back to a stock screened maf.

Its a bit risky but many people have never had problems with it. I personally wouldnt do it. Its not worth the little about of hp you will gain.

All the zo6 mafs have no screen. They are calibrated differently.I do believe all the newer Vettes dont have a screen as well.I havent looked on my Dads C6,but I'm sure someone knows. The screens main purpose is to straighten the airflow.I think any descreened car is fine as long as you have tuning done to make up for the changes it makes.

The only reason I say its not worth it is because if you do have problems then you have to buy another maf.You cant just put the screen back in no matter how careful you take it out because it will skew the readings. So unless you are going to spray a dry shot or have tuning done after its removed I wouldnt do it.But then again I am someone that had issues with a descreened maf.Even with tuning I had issues.

You will gain nothing noticeable, don't do it.

descreened mine and all is great. i couldnt feel a diffrence but even if it adds only 2hp, its a simple task. the hardest part is takin the maf off of your lid( if its a stock lid its a bitch, if its a slp lid its a breeze) took me about 15 mins, and thats just cause i took a bunch of pics. if u want pics let me know. all u need is a flathead screwdrive. thats it

the power shot is probably where you gained your real Hp. Running around on here for awhile, I've never seen descreening, or porting add anything more than 1-2 hp.

http://www.idavette.net/hib/02ls6/page4.htm

talks about descreening. Indicates it is a good idea if there are not curves or bends in the air intake track in front of the MAF.

Rest of article is good reading as well.

I descreened mine without knowing that so many guys have had problems with their's. So far so good though, its been a year and it hasn't caused me any problem. Like it was mentioned, if you descreen it, you are never going to get the screen back in right. When I pulled my screen out I deformed it pretty bad in the process anyway.

Most dynos show that you won't gain much, if anything at all, from it. Besides, any dyno that showed that you gained much would be a negligible difference because, as most of us know, even the very same dyno on the same day can show different numbers on 2 different pulls.

Look at it this way, you can descreen it and maybe gain a little hp, and maybe you'll have no problems, but if you do descreen it, and have problems, it costs you a new MAF to fix it (and they probably aren't cheap), so for such a little gain, IMO leave it screened

Descreened here, no problems at all. If I had read all these threads before doing it I proly wouldn't have. But it's done so I'll leave it.
