Default I think I have header leak!

<img border="0" alt="[whiner]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cry.gif" /> I can very slightly hear when driving around a slight plthssss-plthss-plsthss! <img border="0" alt="[whiner]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cry.gif" />

I just installed my new JBA shorties with the OEM metal GM gaskets, and when I am drivinging around I can hear a slight noise comming from the passenger side. Unfortunately I can not hear anything at idle so I can't track it down.

Does anybody have suggestions or ideas on how to find it, other than lying in the engine compartment while somebody drives it around!

here's a suggestion (not sure how well it will work though)...

W/car in park/neutral spray some simple green (or any spray on soap) around the headers. Rev the car manually from under the hood and watch for the soap to bubble. This should show you where the leak is.

I know this thread is old but i have the same **** going on, my car makes a super slight but annpying tsktsk noise, i used gm gaskets too...i was thinking of pulling the header taking it to my cylinder head guy having it surfaced and then putting percys gaskets (the multi layer jobs that sandwich) with a light coat of some sort of sealer...any have any other ideas?

Skip the sealer, it will mess with the O2's. Use GM gaskets and get the headers resurfaced flat. I had to do the same.

Have you tried the horist method? And yeah you want to keep away from the sealer

Wouldn't the soap or simple green just burn away in small poof of steam before it actually bubbles up? Man, what an old thread.

The easiest way to find an exhaust leak is to have the car running and pour seafoam or GM top engine cleaner in a vacuum line. The cleaner will white smoke out of any leaks you have in the exhaust at the same time cleaning carbon deposits out of your engine.

Worse comes to worse you can keep driving it and black soot will form around leak. A lame way to find it but it works.

The reason I couldnt find mine was that it only leaks when the drivers side header hit the floorboard.
