headers& emissions question
headers& emissions question My 99 TA has the egr valves attached to the manifolds.I would like to eliminate those when I buy headers.But I would also like to be able to pass Illinois emissions.Anyone done this?Any ideas?
You can delete the EGR and AIR (physical system AND the computer codes), and get headers without the bungs. These will not cause you to fail emissions unless the tech at the station is **** and knows LS1's.
I'm not sure about the particulars in Illinois, but i'm sure this will be alright. I've done it on my car and love the way it made the engine bay cleaner.

If they do just an OBD2 test, get the codes tuned out (so they show ready, but don't trigger the SES light) you're good, however if they do a visual (and the tech knows his *** from a hole in the ground) you may fail due to lack of the EGR system (you might get away with telling them it's an 01, or 02 engine they don't have external EGR)
