Re: How to get rid of heat sheild vidration
I have the same problem and its annoyin me like hell, i am very paticular with my car. I was thinking today to get some spray noise dampener. Like the kind used for car audio to reduce vibration in the trunks. I wonder if it will work and hold up to the weather? seems to me it might work any help

JimTA....you pulled all of your heat shields off??? Did you notice any problems with the carpet or anything else in the rear area??? How hot does the muffler and that section of the catback really get??? Could I put a dynamat type thing on it stop resonance??????? I would be a little afraid to remove them completely.

I pulled the heat shields apart where they connect together and squeezed some RTV between them and once it dried they no longer vibrated against each other.

I still have the heatshield for the stock muffler. I removed all of the heatshielding where the factory cats were, because my custom Y pipe would rub the shielding. I later had cats installed, still no heatshields...and no problems at all. Carpet doesn't get warm or anything.

How to get rid of heat sheild vidration
I put on my Bassani off-road y-pipe last friday and I have a tone of vidration in my heat sheilds around my muffler and surrounding area....my question is...how do I get rid of it??? Is there anything I can add to them to make them more solid, can I rip them out...I have tried bending and moving but nothing seems to help....they are driving me nuts. Has anyone else had this prob?...if so what did you do?

Re: How to get rid of heat sheild vidration
Last night I put some dynamat type material on the heat shield joint and on various places of it also and it got rid of some of the rattles but not all of them. I think part of the over axle pipe is hitting it because my bassani pushed the entire cat back towards the rear of the car slightly. I am going to try and push it back if I can....might cut a little off the end of the catback so it goes.

I had a vibration when I installed a custom y-pipe. It was hitting against the tunnel brace. I had the shop make me a new brace out of 1/4 in steel plate and added a "U-shaped" DS loop. Cost about $60.

I had vibration after my Macs w/ ORP. All I had to do was bend the shields a bit and it worked. My friend basicly covered his entire undercar with that undercoating stuff and covered all the heat shields with it and that worked for him.

just remove it all. i dont have any, that way i dont have it rubbing the headers or the y-pipe and eliminates rattles. i also dont drive mine to far or long so maybe its not good for you although i have never had a problem.

Re: How to get rid of heat sheild vidration
A little update..... I played with the exhaust a little this weekend and could not move it any farther towards the front of the car....but I did find that the passenger heat shield that went over the stock cat caused some of the problem. I pulled it and covered the back side with raamat and put it back on and the car is alot queiter now. Still a little vibrations from quick accel but not bad at all. Thanks for all the help.
