Default MAC Y-Pipe really loose????

I had my MAC headers/Y-pipe installed by a shop I use and I just saw that the Y-pipe (single end toward rear of car) where it goes into the intermediate pipe is really, really loose (where the band clamp is). The band clamp appears to be tightened down all the way but I can slide the end of the Y-pipe in and out it’s so loose. Plus because of this, I’m obviously getting exhaust leaking out of this area. Have any of you had this problem and if so, how did you fix it?
Thanks.

Yep. I have the problem almost fixed.

I got a 3" exhaust clamp from Auto Zone or one of those shops. I would reccomened a 2.75" (2-3/4") clamps because the 3" looks a little big. Just titghten the crap out of it!!

Mine was so loose the muffler was sliding back and forth rattling against my heat shield.

Thanks Eric for the advice. I will definitely give that a try. I know welding will take care of it but I really don't want to weld this spot in case I want to change out the Y-pipe.

And I'm glad you like your Short Stick! I also have to say that your site, install university, is the greatest!

I've used it a ton for my BMR LCAs, PHR, and Rear end girdle to name a few. Keep up the good work on that site, it rocks!

Eric - thanks Man, it worked out great! The 2 3/4 inch clamp fit perfectly. I also wrapped some metal exhaust tape around the Y-pipe where it slips inside the intermediate pipe. I tightened the clamp as much as I could and it seemed to crimp the intermediate pipe very well. The old stock band clamp could not do that since it was just a metal band. I haven't fired it up yet because I just finished a little bit ago and it was too late (I didn't want to wake everyone up!).

Anyway thanks again!

Great! That is a good idea about the metal tape. I am glad I could help and I am glad you like the website!

I feel the same way about welding it up. I don't want too either because I can see myself ditching that intermediate pipe soon and I will be cutting some on my y-pipe.

Be careful tightening the hell out of the band clamp between the mac pipe and I pipe. Mine was loose as well so I really crimped it good with a 2.75 clamp now It will not come apart. Even after I had the whole thing off the car and out in the yard me and two other guy COULDN'T get it apart. Just my .02

If you can't get it apart, there's always a sawzall or a good cutting torch. And those things are fun to play with anyway.
