Default 85mm MAF (SLP) fitment

Looking at the SLP 85mm MAF. Seems like the
price is the same as the Pace when you add
in the cable etc. - $159 for either, on the
Web. Not too out-of-line.

Wondering if there will be a problem fitting
this MAF up to my SLP lid hose neck (the fancy
SS-option OEM-like lid). Have to find enough
stretch for another 10mm, or is the outside
dimension less than 10mm larger than stock?
Or is this MAF meant only to mate up to
aftermarket lids, with a coupler around the
outside?

Any input from anyone who's got one of the 85mm
MAFs would be appreciated. Especially if there's
someone who's tried it w/ the SLP "OEM" lid/
hose.

It will fit though, but the MAF has hard contact to the front tiebar. It really needs a spacer to get it a little closer to the TB so there is no hard contact.

The SLP maf comes with a coupler similar to a mini-bellows that connects the maf to the neck of the air lid.

You should not be trying to stick any aftermarket 85mm maf directly into the air lid. Use the coupler (or fabricate your own).

No, the deal is I have the SLP "OE" lid,
which has an oval - round neck hose in rubber.
So the coupling hose I saw in their catalog
would, I guess, have to go around the outside
of this soft piece. Not a hard neck like the
molded aftermatket lids. Or, it would have to
go inside the rubber neck (with serious
stretching). I guess. It's unlike the standard
aftermarket lids, which is why I'm asking.

SLP Engineering had no advice for me on this,
other than to call SLP Performance. They don't
(and the guy said, won't) make an upsized neck
piece to accommodate larger MAFs, they are only
doing OEM standard.

White_2K2_Hawk, what's this front tiebar? Some
feature of the Ram Air hood? And do you have
the SLP lid as original equipment, rubber neck,
over the MAF end? Or do I misunderstand?

What makes it tough is that the OEM lid still has an oval hole in it for the intake piping (similar to the stock lid). SLP has manufactured a rubber piece that clamps over the oval on the airbox and over the end of the MAF. The sleeve that comes with the 85mm MAF is soft, and so is the rubber piece from the lid. That is why you need another piece to clamp them both together. The spacer will also move it out so it is not touching the sheet metal. I've heard road vibrations on a MAF are not good for long term durability.

On the good side, the oval output on the lid means you don't rub on the hood anymore, so I think it is worth it.
