Default Problems with Holley intake

Does anyone know what these fitment problems are and how to fix them? I have heard of several people saying they didn't fit on the heads right and leaked but that's about all I know. They affects weren't good though. Mine is supposed to be going on this week but now I'm not sure if I want to. Thanks.

So far I have been concerned. I have only read about folks needing to do a lot of little things to seal the intakes properly.

I have also heard one person say that some of the first batch ones don't seal well at all.

Yep,

I have read of a lot of issues with these as well. I was looking forward to seeing people pick up some nice gains with these.

I am going to reserve my final judgement until I see what Harlan's (y2khawk) does on his TT setup. If the results are pretty good then I will have to reconsider getting a Hogan custom made.

beeler,

do a search on the Holley intake there is a very good posting F1 and I did when he was installing his Holley. It details the issues we had with it and has some excellent pictures of the fixes.

I'm curious about the undeside of yours.

Mine looks like they may have changed the casting on the bottom to address the clearance for the valley cover bolts. I went ahead and got button heads before the manifold arrived, but it looks like they would fit anyway. But it's not torqued down yet, so who knows.

Just wondering if they fixed it

I don't know Harlan,

I think I may have gotten one of the very earliest ones produced and Holley may have addressed some of the fitment issues already. You could clearly see 3 small indentations on the valley pan where the cover screws made contact thus requiring the countersunk cover flush head screws. Also there were several marks in the recess just inboard of the manifold to head mating surface made by the valley pan bolts which indicated the manifold was resting on the valley pan bolt heads. Then there were several small cuts on the manifold gasket caused by the washers on the head bolts protruding to far out from the recess cut on the heads which required minimal removal of material to seat just past flush with the head port surface areas. I really don't think it was any big deal just a major PIA removing and reinstalling the manifold each time. I'd really be interested to see what kind of gains you achieve with that twin turbo set up you have. L8TR

I just got mine fixed. I ended up countersinking the bolts on both the valley pan and the acess plate. Dont forget to smooth the inside edge of the counter sunk acess plate because that will cause a leak.

I hooked a vacuum meter guage to the front barb fitting and it was dead still at around 18 or something.

Guys, I will email the guy at Holley at Holley I know, and see what he says...

My concern about the mods to make the Holley intake work are two fold...

One, they have been selling those intake in places like Summit and Jegs, and many folks are not as savvy as we are...

Two, it's not cheap, and I'm sure they don't want folks to have to countersink bolts and whatnot.

EDIT: I went ahead and forwarded this thread to my Holley contact.

If other folks have positive or negative experiences, please post them so we can report our experiences. Keep it constructive.

I hope Dave Potter sees the thread and posts.

John,

As I said in my previous post in this thread, once we had all the little things that were causing the manifld to leak figured out it really wasn't to bad, just irritating that we had to pull the manifold several times to get it right. The Holley manifold made 7 RWHP's more than the LS6 manifold did mounted on my car. As I said in an earlier post the Holley is $90.00 more than an LS6 not to mention the cost of port matching and shipping. If you consider that all totalled I have $790.00 into the manifold for a 7 RWHP gain that's $112.85 per HP, rather expensive don't you think? Personally I think this would be a great manifold for guys like Harlan who have twin turbo chargers or if you are running a 300LB shot of N20 or even the big cubed strokers but for the majority of the rest of us the LS6 is probably sufficient, but then again that's just M.H.O.

the biggest reasoning behind getting it was the ability to modify the running lengths.

In addition to the port match, i'm shortening the runners a decent amount. Increase in plenum volume and decrease in runner volume will get me more upper RPM flow. yes it'll cost me low RPM torque due to the lost runner tunning, but i've got a little assist when it comes to low end torque. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

all in due time i guess. So far, i haven't torqued it down so i can't really comment on the fitament, but i know what to watch for now

I'm sensing a "LS1 Holley Intake Fire Sale" soon. Nobody seems to want one right now. Proces will start to fall if they don't sell.
