Default thermostat mod?

i was reading some old post and ran across a post that was talking about modifying your stock thermostat to make it open at 160 or 180 depending on what you wanted. has anyone tried this and if so does it really work, do you have any instructions and is it worth the time or is it better to buy an aftermarket one

It's definitely worth the time, and it works just as well as the aftermarket ones, without the high price. I ran a modded thermo in my LS1 for almost two years with no problems. You can always buy a spare stock thermo if you want to swap back and forth once the cool weather hits, and the stock thermo is still cheaper than the aftermarket 160 thermos.

I used a 3/16 spacer in mine to get it to open at 160.
