Default Cold Air intake with Ram Air on an SS?

I have an SLP cold air intake installed on my 02 SS. It came with a rubber seal to seal off the front of the air box. Should I use this seal so the only air going in the air box comes from in front of the radiator and none through my hood scoop? I read somewhere that with the SS hood design, it takes up to 3/4 of a mile to actually have cool air going in through the hood scoop because the hood itself heats up from the engine, and in turn heats up the air going through it by the time it gets around to the front of the box. Any ideas?

I'd use the rubber seal, and block off the front of the air box. That way none of the cool air escapes from the SLP cold air intake setup. Like you said, the SS hood is mainly for looks, and doesn't do much for getting cold air to the engine.

I measured IATs before and after the SLP CAI install
and the CAI made them a lot worse especially after
any time parked hot. Blocking off the SS hood will only
aggravate this and put back some small restriction
(probably not enough to matter, but still). I do not
recommend the CAI piece at all, but have used it as
a basis for better ducting - it's solid, at least, even
if it is a heat sponge.

Your mods say you have a "hacked" SLP CAI. What do you mean by hacked? You chop it off so it doesn't absorb as much heat? Have you measured your AITs since you had it hacked? Do you think it helped?

What about the Austin ram air made out of plastic (I think?)? Would that soak up more heat or no?

Ok, so I came across this post and wanted to bring it back to life. I have intentionally left that rubber seal off. I'm not so sure if I want to install it or not. What are the pro's and con's on each side? Does it really do the opposite of what it says? This guy claims that it only adds heated air. Can anyone disprove this? I would like to optimize my air and obviously minimize the heat added to it.
