Default thinking about buying this intake manifold...need your insight

i have a 98ls1 and im thinking about buying a Lingenfelter LS6 aluminum intake, for 275.00.... their site quotes, "We bolted a Weiand/Lingenfelter aluminum intake manifold onto a stock 1999 Pontiac Trans-Am WS6, and we were rewarded with 22 more RWHP on our Mustang Chassis Dynamometer." but companys always lie about numbers, so im in need of some of your insights and input on this intake, thanks

also... do you need the coolang lines and the plugs for this manifold like you do for the ls6 manifold....to fit onto a 98 ls1? it seems as though you can have your stock 98-00 egr setup? please take a look at it and tell me if i need to do so

I have a 98 with an LS6 manifold. You don't need to get the new style cooling lines, but you'll have to dremel some of the ribs off the bottom of the manifold to make it fit. It's not too hard, took me maybe 20 minutes at most. For the EGR, just get the block off plates and ditch it.

It looks like that aluminum manifold will work with EGR, but I don't know why you would want to keep it...or pay that crazy price when you could pick up a regular LS6 for way less.

I don't know your mods, but a 10-15hp gain would be about right for a bolt on, stock motor car.

go for an LS6 instead, unless u want the bling. those are proven to be suceptable to heat soak. SLP sells an LS6 with EGR provisions if you need that

im not paying over 700.00 for it, im getting one for 275.00.... i wouldnt pay that ridiculous price either, but for 275.00... it doesnt seem that bad.....

so i guess the intake manifold does work with egr?? but i should ditch it anyways?

You live in CA ... keep your EGR if the manifold accepts it. It won't hurt performance and without it, you won't pass visual.

I went with the SLP. Don't like the aluminum, like Phoenix 5.7 said, heat soak=bad . Plastic =no heat soak = good .

Yeah, maybe they iced the aluminum inatke on the dyno. Id also go with the nylon ls6 intake since they flow the same.

Heat soak is bs. You will lose *maybe* 3hp on a 500hp engine. There is way too much volume of air passing way too quickly to pick up enough heat to make any difference. Search the dyno section of this site.

I love my manifold. Plus you can port to whatever runner size and shape you want. I felt much more low end grunt putting this intake on.
