If I get headers and a cam will that work with my stock exhaust(I have a cutout)?

I'd find a cat back that breathes better than the stock exhaust, or get a cut-out to get the real effect of the headers.

You could do the headers/ory and step up to 3" pipe back to the cutout, then leave the stock over-axle pipe and muffler. That way it'd flow a little better before exiting at the cutout.

But what if he WANTS it to stay quiet? I've always wondered the same thing what if you want the sleeper effect and only have it sound stock or slightly louder than stock... will the backpressure actually damage something? Or simply mean that your flow won't be as good as it could be but that's it?

It'll be slightly louder with the stock muffler, but still not very loud. The backpressure won't damage anything, it'll just hinder the overall performance. Mine isn't much louder than stock with the cutout closed. With the cutout open, that's a different story

My 382 stroker car was simply TOO loud with the SLP Dual/Dual and also with the full block off on the Borla. Dyno indicated about 500 Flywheel HP in 2002 with the full open Borla. I couldn't live with that as a daily driver and put on a full stock SS cat back and lost about 20 HP

If you race with the cutout open, leave it alone. Your not using the catback when it counts anyways.

If you want to maximize that setup, go for a 3" I-pipe from the y-pipe to the cutout and call it a day.
