SLP y-pipe worth it on a stock engine?

I want/need to keep my car relatively stock for emmissions reasons... so no plans for long tube headers or gutting my cats. I do plan on an electronic cutout in the near future and thought I might as well add it to a SLP y-pipe while I have it on the lift.

My question, is the SLP pipe alone worth any great increases in HP? They claim 10HP, but I'm not so sure I buy thier advertising... Will I get more from the cutout than I will from the y-pipe?

The y-pipe in and of itself really isn't going to do to much. In context of the entire exhaust system it is already the freest flowing section, simply making it bigger isn't going to help that much.

You'll definitly get more out of a cut out than you will anything, on a dollar for dollar basis.

The only way that LT headers will cause you to fail emissions is if you have a visual inspection to pass. In CA you would fail. Otherwise, you will be fine.

You say you don't want headers now, but give it time. The Y pipe will probably give you 5-7 HP, which you won't feel. I would either save for headers or put your money into another mod. JMO. <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

Unless you are going to an ORY without cats I do not believe that the gains for replacing a Y pipe (I doubt it is even worth 5-7 hp) are worth the cost.

There are a number of things in the same $200 price range that will give a far greater return such as: Lid/Filter, FTRA, Pulley, Etc..

I say get the SLP Y pipe...USED don't pay $200+! They go for about $100 used in great condition. A cutout plus the y-pipe will net you a honest 7 to 10 hp on stock Z28 or T/A. Less if your cars an SS or WS6 and has SLP dual/duals.
