Default SLP header install, please help.

Doing this on a friends 01 SS. The fit is crap on these. The srivers side went in well. This was supposed to be the hard side. Got to the pasenger, and cought hell. It would't go in, no matter what I tried. Finally, took off the motor mount, and tranny crossmember, & was able to get it in there by prying the tranny over.

Now the starter wires and o2 sensor wires look way too close to the headers. The header is not bolted in solid yet, but doesn't look like I'm going to gain much clearance there.

I have the wires zip tied as far away as I can, but it still looks too close for comfort for me. What are you guys doing to the wires to keep them from burning up?

I'm used to installing the FLP's & Grotts, which had none of these problems. This is a new one for me. Please give some advice, if you have had the same problem. Thanks.

..."the orange tubing"....no problems yet, haven't heard of any yet either. Was told I could have a bracket fabricated, drill thru the inner fender wall and draw the tubing w/wires a litlle
bit off the header, haven't done this tho.

I have the slp's and the only problem we had was the wiring....of course the tranny was out at the time.

The wiring is very close and not really a good way to run it. We used 'welders cloth' or thats what i call it to stick between the two. After a bunch of runs at the track no problems so far.

I ran my wires through the motor mount too. I used the orange wrap that comes with the SLP LT Header installation kit to wrap the wires and the orange wrap is in full contact with the header. That was about 10K miles ago and all is well.

The only problem I have is condensation from the A/C dripping on the passenger header. I got up under the car and adjusted a plate above the header but that doesn't stop all of the condensation from dripping on the header.

Thanks. I used the wrap, but, wasn't sure. Do you undo the starter wires, & then slp it over, or slit the wrap & tie it to the wires. It looks like a tight fit to undo the wires to get it to slip over.

I'll be completing the project tomorrw, so hope it all works out.

I would not reccomend this header to anyone. The easiest ones so far have been the FLP's, & the Grotts.

Be careful with the orange wrap. After a year of service, mine looked fine on the outside but the inside was heat deteriorated. I saw a friends that looked fine on the outside after 1.5 years as a daily driver but when the inside was checked the insulation of all the wires was melted together!

I double wrapped mine this time and will check it again at the start of next season.

I have over 1,000 miles post install with the orange wraped loom in full contact witht the header pipe. I have'nt checked the inside yet, but the outside looks o.k. I even wrapped the orange fire wrap with heat resistent tape. Hopefully next weekend I will check the loom. I'll let you guys know what's up there. The wires are not long enough. That entire passenger side was a nightmare. Somehow, I was able to get that pass. header in by myself. I lowered the tranny with my floor jack and shoved until I almost dislocated my shoulder. I taped the mating surface (of the header) with masking tape so I would not scratch them as I pushed it in.

Well, I'll tell you how I just got mine out. SAWZALL! I was tired of messing with it, so I just hacked them out. They were scrap anyway, after sitting so low they were scraped through right before the collector. Now I have Hookers. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
