HELP... Car died
or touch one of the primary pipes. Additional insulation is provided and in
place, but loom always has some tension to it. Went to change plug wires
on friday, then I noticed that the orange PCM wire loom insulation from SLP
(touching a header primary) was cooked, so I decided to wrap the header
in that area and add one more sheet of the orange insulation. Loom got
tighter. Completed my plug wire install and put everything back together.
Went to crank, instead, the ignition beep from the dash would flash rapidly
and so would the dash lights. Afterwards, not even the lights would come on.
Went back under the hood and removed the additional insulation sheet, reset
the pcm, then it ran. Ran OK for a day and died again at a local parking lot.
Moved the loom, reset the pcm and it started again. This morning, none of
that worked. Checked power connections and that all fuses were tight (didn't
check for continuity on all yet). Oh ****!, can't even drive it to a shop.
Would this be a sign of
- a short to ground
- short between two wires (if the insulation did break down internally for each wire)
- loose connector
- Also, I have read post on guys installing electronics and having starting problems
if the battery is drained. Could this just be a sign of a weak battery?.
Thanks guys, I need all the help I can get before I start removing connectors
and headers.
Don't give in. Refuse to get it towed until you exhausted every attempt at the solution.
