Whats the deal with Hookers???
Guys why are hookers so cheap do they make good headers??? No not those hookers the ones that are made for our cars??? I want to buy headers some day down the road and can't figure out why hookers ae like $500, FLP's re like 1200, and ohers are like $900-$1300???
Is there any performance differance in the hookers as opposed to the $1000 ones???
Is it just quality???
Are hookers any good???

Re: Whats the deal with Hookers???
the hookers are great. just bear in mind that they cost $580 for the headers alone. you also still have to get a y pipe. off road y pipe for hookers are between $200 and $285 depending on what type you want. if you want cats, expect to add another $300 to the price. so they aren't that much cheaper than the other options out there. i'm in jersey and have the hookers; if you wanna see/hear them, i'll be at e-town next saturday for the f-bodies vs. mustangs event. or go to my webpage and you can hear some sound files i took of my car (with cam).

Re: Whats the deal with Hookers???
The Y pipe is a pipe shaped like a Y which merges the two sides of the exhaust system into one. An X pipe is shaped like an X and with a dual exhaust system allows exhaust from one side of the engine to exit through both mufflers/pipes going back. An H pipe is a similar crossover concept but is shaped like an H not an X so it may be slightly less efficient. an I pipe is the single pipe between the end of the Y and the muffler.

Oh, and an off-road Y pipe (ORY) has longer ends on each side to compensate for the fact that there will not be catalytic converters on it. A standard Y pipe is shorter and there is a cat on each side. You will NOT get past emissions without cats.

Re: Whats the deal with Hookers???
I need Cats in order to pass emissions correct?
Also whats the differance between pipes??? Like y pipe, off road y pipe, X pipe, H pipe, C pipe, Z pipe? Just kidding with the last 2, but what is the differance between those pipes?
It'll be a daily driver and needs to pass emissions, so whats my best bet?

Re: Whats the deal with Hookers???
Well the secret of the matter is, in most states new cars don't need to go through emissions for a while. Some states don't even have emissions testing unless there is a title transfer.
Arizona for instance doesn't require emissions testing for the first five years on a new car. Then it's every year, but there are several cities here that do not require the emissions testing at all.
There are ways around the tests... get in with your local F-Body group, chances are, they know the laws and how to get around them.

Re: Whats the deal with Hookers???
Hookers are not cheap. When people compare Hookers to other LTs they're comparing apples to oranges. Usuall they'll compare uncoated Hookers to a full coated kit like FLP with cats. Now, coated Hooker LTs, coated Y pipe, they're just as much as other longtubes. The equivalent setup of SLPs with racepipes is only $100 more than Hookers. So Hookers are not cheap, trust me I know! Got them in this past weekend. Awesome fi, awesome sound, smells good too!

Re: Whats the deal with Hookers???
I was gonna start a thread to ask this same question till I saw this one.. I was also wondering what the deal was with hookers, not so much because they are cheap (which they really arent) but I've been looking into headers for awhile now and I was almost sold with SLP's LT headers but everyone seems to be talking up Hooker's (or FLP) but nonetheless I am down to deciding between SLP and Hookers. Is there really any big difference between the 2? Im guessing same performance increase, same quality, what about sound? or is it just all in a name?

Re: Whats the deal with Hookers???
Actually the Hookers are cheap price wise, and I think just as good as FLP, SLP's or any of the other Long tube headers. Some people will say the quality isn't as good, or you don't get the option to have cats and ORP's. So far I've heard the quality is fine, and performance wise they will function like all the other LT headers. I only care about the functionality, looks aren't worth another $700 to me. I just ordered the UNCOATED Hooker Headers and Y-pipe for $582.59 shipped to my door. Sure they don't have the interchangeable cats and ORP's, but I don't need cats and all those extra flanges and bolts on the FLP's add weight and turbulance in the exhaust. I pat everyone on the back who shelled out $1200 for the other LT's, Hookers serve the same purpose they just look less bling bling and cost half as much I just want the power, screw the other stuff

Re: Whats the deal with Hookers???
580+200=180= Cheaper and smarter than spending 850 for SLP, FLP or any other header IMO. IMO SLP headers have too many bends and curves. If you want a good header get the Hookers, Dynatechs or FLPs(that is the only expensive header I would buy)

Re: Whats the deal with Hookers???
I dont know where you guys are getting your headers, but my Jegs shows the hookers for $400, and I know they are available from Jet coatings.
$400 for the headers, and then have a cuatom Y made, which around here would cost $100.. Might as well use the flowmaster collector, still you are looking at a complete system for less than $600. If you add in the coating, it goes up. But there are still good deals to be had on this header.
Can anyone running the headers tell me how they are to install? I just did the SLP in a friends car & they are a big pain in the rear.

Re: Whats the deal with Hookers???
Got mine in with true dual setup $515 headers+$150 for local coating shop+$130 O2sims/24" extensions total=$795 total...took me about 8 hours to put them in with a lift and a partner. They rock, especially when I added Dynomax Bullets with turndowns...loud as hell and very noticable pick up. Havent dyno'd the car lately. But I have heard easy gains of 30 rwhp. The really made my nitrous hit harder, with some serious roar. Email me if you need any help with the install, the instructions are about perfect. Though I would use your original bolts, and buy some OEM gaskets.
