Default Detonation with FIPK?

With WOT at high RPMs I notice some fine "pinging" or what sounds like detonation. I recently installed the FIPK and was curious as to why this would affect timing? The FIPK is the only mod I have done to my 2001 SS. Could my Air temp. module be failing and or not picking up the incomming air? I am not understanding why the FIPK would affect the timing, the MAF should pick up any changes that are occuring with the FIPK, correct? And last but not least, would a MAFT cure this problem?
TIA

My Z had detonation problems before and after I put my FIPK. Some people have suggested 160* Tstat, TB bypass, PCV mod, change plugs, etc. I did the pcv mod(no improvement). I plan on doing TB bypass and 160* tstat.Hopefully that will cool things down a bit and eliminate detonation.

In my opinion.. I would go to a stock style air lid I.E. Whisper, MTI, LS1 Motorsports. The FIPK sucks air out of the hot engine compartment, which is most likely contributing to your problem.

I'm not surprised you're pinging. You've opened up the air intake to allow more airflow! You're running lean due to more airflow. As you suggested, a MAFT will help but not a cure all. You need to A-tap it or use some scan tool to look at knock retard, L-trims, etc. Good luck.
