just a thought wondering if anyone has ever thought of doing this, or if it would even be worth the trouble, what about completely ditching the lid on a trans am, and just adding a tube that runs to a cone filter that would be placed behind the bumper? just bored and thought of this, thinking that it could really open up the engine bay, any thoughts?
i think a cone filter would restrict the air as oppossed to ram air with an aftermarket lid.but I have seen dual cone filters inside the ram air box without the lid, looks different, kinda cool, but not worth the change if u already have ram air

FIPK uses a short duct, no reason you couldn't extend
it with Baker hose and 3" (3.5"?) elbows. But finding an
"almost as good", but closer position might be better
all-in-all. Which the stock lid is, kinda, but could use a
little baffling between engine compartment and nose
space, a little black tape and a little work with the
steak knife to remove some styrofoam.
