5.3 v 5.7 valve cover differences?
In my quest to swap to LQ9s, I'd scored a set of 5.3L centerbolt valvecovers to complement my centerbolt heads (as my '98 came stock with perimeter bolt).
I've just gotten the heads installed and torqued down, and set the valve covers in place. I've noticed a couple of differences:
~ The 5.7s have two PCV tubes on the passenger's side while the 5.3s have only one, located on the driver's side
~ The 5.7s have a larger oriface for the oil fill cap, and the 5.3s have a much smaller one (which makes my current breather and/or stock fill neck useless)
So does this mean I have to find the correct 5.3 items if I wanna use these covers, or should I just try to find some 5.7 covers since they already have the correct provisions? This still leaves the problem of missing one of the PCV provisions. I'm just having issues because I've had these 5.3 covers hot tanked, bead blasted, and professionally painted. I obviously didn't see a difference until now.
Thanks

I'm not sure about the fill neck, but to solve your pcv problem, buy a ls6 valley cover.Instead of your pcv valve system wrapping around the back side of your motor, the ls6 valley has a nipple on the pass front corner.your pcv hose now connects to the front valve cover nipple to the valley.go to LS1howto.com for step by step instructions and gm part numbers for the parts required.I hope this helps you..scott

For those wondering, you have to custom route and be creative with these particular valve covers.
One cover has a large hole, the other a small hole.
Large one = oil fill or breather
Small one = PCV w/ grommet plugs directly into it.
The PCV one runs a line to the other valve cover provision, then "y"s off to the TB like stock.
Pics will come to simplify my explanation.
