Default Stainless Steel Headers

I know SLP makes stainless steel headers. Are there any others worth taking a look at? Where can I get/see them? How much? Car is brand new (has less than 200 miles on it. I'm looking for a good all around ceramic coated stainless header. I plan H/C, total stainless exhaust (incl. Corsa), stage 2+ ProCharger w/D1SC, dbl roller t-chain, and suspension upgrades (incl. lowering springs). I want good power from just off idle to 6000-6300 rpm. I am looking at Comp 212/218 .522/.529 114 or 216/220 .525/532 114. I want good in-town driveability, 20+mpg on the highway, and as close to 600 rwhp as possible w/ETs in 10s. I think this is doable. Opinions, advise, cutting remarks?
Also, still need 5, or so, more people interested in group purchase of LS1_Edit for $280 - regularly $550. <img border="0" alt="[Burnout]" title="" src="graemlins/burnout.gif" />

That GP on ls1edit is a scam btw. It's 550$.

If you're really hellbent on that level of power, don't use the SLPs. Some 1 7/8 grots would probably be your best bet for best #'s.

Are the Grotts stainless steel? Any problems with the SLPs, especially if I'm going to lower the car?

How do you know it is a scam? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

From my experience, the SLP's make as much power as the Grott 1 7/8's (I've had both) and I'd actually give my vote to the SLP's (much better fit and a nice y-pipe, unlike the Grotts) on a NON-LOWERED car. If you're lowering, the SLP's will be too low, IMO.

I was afraid of that. Know of any other ss long tubes that won't scrape and that would, hopefully, have matching ss y-pipe?

Thanks for the info on the group purchase. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Embarrassed]" src="gr_emb.gif" />

I have found that Bassani also makes complete ss exhaust systems. I also talked to Mitch at FLP and he says stainless headers will crack. Anybody experienced this? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

I wouldn't worry about buying stainless headers. The only ones I know of are the SLPs and they are noted as 1) making less power 2) having ground clearance issues. If you're shooting for 600rwhp with a big supercharger, you want maximum exhaust flow. Either the dynatech stepped 1 7/8 or the grot 1 7/8 would be your best bet. Get a good ceramic coating and don't worry about it.

I will be doing most of my driving in-town and regular highway driving and I don't want to kill the bottom end torque. I think 1 7/8 is too big. Stepped may be an option. What would be the advantages there?

If you're putting down 600rwhp with a supercharger, you're not gonna have to worry about low end torque at all. The only thing you're gonna have to worry about is some kind of really sticky tires so you don't smoke them everytime you hit the gas.

SLP headers are made of 409 stainless steel. This type of stainless steel has a lower Chromium content than 304 stainless steel, so it's not quite as rust resistant as 304, but still better than regular mild steel. They are also less prone to brittle or cracking, compared to T304, since T304 has a lower conductivity (gets hotter).

I've never heard of anyone's SLP headers 'cracking' <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" />

seems to me that the slp headers are a pretty good deal. i have hear what a pita they are to install, i'll get to find this out soon enough. but, stainless steel + ceramic coating has got to be pretty durable. i got mine for $639 through the TBYRNE gp.

In one of the replies above it was stated that the SLPs are too low if you are going to lower your car. I already have springs that will lower the car about 1 1/2-2". Will this be a problem?

But they do rust, tho. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> Even tho they're coated, where you scrape them, they will rust. At least mine are. I'm going to pull them off soon and redo the coating.

2000LS1 - no. I changed multiple things at once. I'm basing my opinion on track times.

It's funny that the FLP, who makes FLP headers would rip on stainless steel. Gee, I wonder why???
