Car shut off as I was driving. Fuel pump?
It just cut out, not stalled, as I was driving it. I was just starting to slow down from 50 mph. Braking was not hard, but was smooth. I wondered of this might be a sign of the fuel pump going out.
I had enough gas, so there shouldn't be any problem with the fuel sloshing.
I need to upgrade the fuel pump, sooner than expected, if it appears to be a problem with the fuel pump. I am spraying the car.

Definitely time to upgrade the pump. Mine would cut out for a split second around 6000rpm while racing. My pump was also making noise, so I replaced it and all is good now. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

My '01 hd truck did this for 2 months, dealer wouldn't fix it (no code) I got code from it, but it cleared, anyway it was the crank position sensor..
I don't know. A sudden shutting off sounds more like an ignition/sensor thing. My fuel pump recently took a crap. The car started falling on its face under harder acceleration, then stumbling more and more until it just sputtered its way to a stall. All within about 2 miles. Then it really didn't want to run again and was quite the task to get it back home.
After the pump shuts off, you would have to use all the fuel in the lines before it would just shut off. During the time you are using what is left in the system, the pressure would be dropping causing a gradual decrease in performance, not just a sudden shut down.
Just my thoughts...

How could I check the crank postion sensor?
I plan to upgrade the fuel pump anyway, but I'm curious on the CPS, in case the problem persist. How hard is it to change?

When my stock fuel pump was going away, the car would still run even at 35psi at WOT.
The CPS is above the starter, I can swap the CPS in 10 minutes.
Make sure you did not burn the wires by the #4/#6 header primaries in that foil wrapped bundle is the CPS wires, (and 02 wires for B1S2)

Not in a Fbody, but i had the same experience. Going about 40 mph and everything cut off but the radio, so i just coasted to a stop. It turns out the problem was the fuel filter. You should check yours just in case.
