Verbs, are you telling me that if you sit in traffic your air temp does not creep higher and higher untill you start moving? Are you saying that it never surpasses the actual temperature outside?

My air temp never surpasses the temp outside, but maybe by 2-5 degrees due to the heating of the pavement. But it is usually dead on.

Saw it with auto-tap - that was proof enough for me.

I have the factory ram air baffles removed during dry weather with the ability to quickly put the large baffle back in for rainy weather driving. Keeps from washing the K&N in place!

Next I am going to make a seal to seal the hood to the air box - I know a guy who did it and it is worth a 10th.

If you want to try to make a little more air hit the rad you can look at these photos and think about doing this to your car also. I'm speaking about openning the two holes up on each side of the nose.

My car only hits 215 every now and then with the FTRA. Only if it's in stop and go traffic. Other than that my temp stays normal.

The new version of the ram air plate has sides to deflect more air into the main duct.

The FTRA will yield the lowest IAT temps as soon as you start moving. Install University found the average IAT drop to be close to 10 F. That is 1% more power right there without taking into account the other benefits of the FTRA.

Most people believe that a warmer running engine makes less power. This is NOT true. The goal is to keep the combustion chamber as hot as possible without detonation while keeping the air entering the motor cool (more dense air). In fact, most LS1 cars run quickest when they are hot lapped at the track. We have a composite intake that does not heat soak like the LT1 aluminum intakes.

The FTRA is going to keep the incoming air as cool as possible and also improve VE. Lower intake temps allow the PCM to give you more timing advance. These factors all make the FTRA produce better HP, better throttle response and higher fuel economy.

I have the FTRA and my temp usually stays around 180-190 on a hot day. It never gets over 210.

Maybe my car's a freak. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Cool]" src="gr_images/icons/cool.gif" />

AntiVenom, IF you are using the stock gauge to read engine temp then you are reading a fudged number. Its not accurate.

Verbs, I'm still trying to figure out how your Air intake temp is Hardly any more than ambient temperature while your sitting in traffic.
My AIT goes up because the whole engine bay is hot, and this includes the airlid (which houses the AIT sensor), the lower air box, and the core support. Sealed system or not, the whole air lid gets hot from the outside, and thusly warms the AIT while sitting in traffic.
Also, while sitting in traffic in a car with the FTRA sucking up hot *** pavement air (which is hot as ***) how does the temp not go up?
So with this said, while sitting in traffic your Air intake temperature is never more than 2-4 degrees hotter than the outside air? HOW?

I notice a few degree jump, and am sure that if I sat longer it would keep climbing.

How much is the stock guage off? Do you guys have different guages, or are you reading it from autotap or something like that?
