Default K&N FILTER HP GAIN?

HAVE STOCK 02 WS-6. NOT READY TO CHANGE THE LID BECAUSE I'M WAITING FOR THE FIREHAWK LID TO COME ON THE MARKET. WOULD I GET ANY HP GAIN BY CHANGING OUT THE STOCK FILTER(ONLY 4,000 MILES) WITH A K&N FILTER?

Yes, you will probably gain between 0.1 and 3hp. That seems to be the norm.

I seriously doubt you'll see any hp gain even though it does flow better. I do like that fact that you can clean it yourself when necessary. If you're looking to add hp, you're looking in the wrong place. It was the first thing I added though

I personally have the Holley filter. I used to have a K&N but I think the Holley seals to the air lid better.

What did I gain? Who knows...maybe 3hp, maybe nothing.

Here is a comparison for you on the dyno from a stock paper type filter to taking the filter out there was a 5 hp gain, so to answer your question about a holley or k&n it's somewhere in the middle

I personally have a Holley Powershot Air Filter. Its well made and from what I hear, they seal better (also mentioned above), and its "oil" is more electronics friendly (wont damage MAF, etc.).

Bill, forgetabout the K&N filter and get the Holley Power Shoot, the K&N was never designed to fit LS1, that's why they need that POS lid gasket. Just my two cents worth.

It's your $$ but I'd get the Holley instead.

DOES THE HOLLEY FLOW AS WELL AS K&N?
CAN HOLLEY BE CLEANED LIKE K&N?
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST? K&N IS ABOUT $50.

I have also found with the FRA mod that the K/N gets really dirty/obstructed quickly.
you find all sorts of goodies stuck to it!

WS-6 BILL:
* The Holley flows the same or better than the K&N.
* The Holley can be cleaned and re-oiled just like the K&N. The oil is blue instead of purple.
* The Holley is cheaper than the K&N, but its pretty much an order-only item. I got mine from www.jegs.com. They also have the oil, but they dont list it. You have too look it up based on P/N which is available from Holley's website.

Having both the K&N and the Holley, I like the Holley better for the reasons mentioned above. My K&N fit fair but the Holley was much better with my Direct Flo Lid.

As to Fram, avoid their oil filters if possilbe.

Same here..like the holley better than k and n..same or better flo..perfect fit..sensor friendly oil..pretty inexpensive..got mine on gp when they first cam out from thunder racing..
win..win..win..any more hp than factory..not sure
the 3hp is probably about right..the lid gives the big gain..the filter not much..but all the little stuff can add up.
