Default Ultimate Exhaust Topic

I'm a newbie to LS1s and ls1tech.com, and I used the search feature a lot. I tend to find it doesn't usually answer my questions, so this might help for people who are looking for exhausts. Lets make this a big tread, and everyone add their opinions of the following exhausts... this will be a great addition to the search/archives.

Please share your comments on the exhausts below. Fit/finish/sound/price. Are you happy with it? Please tell us as much as possible. Thanks!!

Here are pics of the exhausts from ls1speed.com:

I like SLP 2OTL. Sounds great with an ORY (no rasp). Nice quality. I don’t see how any rear exit catback using a muffler could possibly flow any better. Straight thru design.

Reasonable price for the fact it’s all stainless steel.

I would like to learn more about the Bassani catback though. I have their headers and I like them very much.

But my vote for favorite (at this time) goes to SLP 2OTL.

Also, I have had Magnaflow and Flowmaster.

Flowmaster American Thunder: Very nice sound with cats. Kinda raspy with an ORY in the 2100 to 2400rpm range. Not stainless steel, but still nice quality (tips are polished T304 stainless steel though). Poor flow compared to straight through designs though.

Magnaflow: Great quality, good flow. Too quiet for me with cats. Never tried it with an ORY though. Tips are OK but I don’t care too much for them as I like angle cut better.

Spintech also makes a catback for the F-body now. I'm using their 3" in / dual 3" out muffler on my setup. I like it alot. Previous exhausts were SLP dual-dual and SLP loudmouth.

Can anybody give me any more info on the Spintech mufflers? I'm having a custom exhaust done and the guy wants to use a Spintech. Definately NOT a straight-through design, so I'm concerned about the flow of these mufflers.

The guy that's doing the exhaust races a 9 sec car, so he knows his stuff. But I'd really like to hear from someone here that knows these mufflers. Thanks.

GMMG Borla and if you do try the bigest plate in there and work your way down. rember*the more you use a little plate the less air flow mean's more you will get off the linelow end. the more you leave your Borla open with the biggest plate the more you going to get top end and maby a hair off the line. i run the bigest plate in there

with GMMG it's 1 sound and 1 sound only that's the good thing about Borla you can alway's adjust it any time you feel like it you go to the track and you want better ET's hell stick the little plate in there you want louder in the city open that hole up hope this help's

I'm kinda trying to decide between the Mufflex 3.5 or 4" catback, or the Corsa. So hard to decide!! Does anyone have one of these? How's sound? How's flow? How's HP?

Thanks!

BORLA! Awesome sound and tunable!

- Million mile warranty in writing!
- Solid Stainless Steel
- No coatings to scrape off
- Super Sharp fully-polished intercooled
tips
- Ultra-quality construction

Message to TrahnZam WS6 - Dude, you have one of the sharpest looking T/As i've ever seen posted anywhere. I've seen you post it before and I love that color and those Fikse wheels. I bet that dual-exaust flows awesome. The only thing I would say to you is with that "gunmetal" color car and those wheels - I think some kind of chrome or polished tips out the back would look way cooler than empty spaces. Something just does'nt look right when those exaust spaces are empty. Just my opinion - not criticism. Love your car Dude!

I've got the Flowmaster cat-back with a 3" Y-Pipe, and I absolutely LOVE the deep rumble of this setup!!! It is one of the cheaper cat-backs on the market. For the price I don't think it can be beat IMO. With this exhaust, an air lid w/k&n, and a few free mods, I'm up to 370hp at the flywheel!!! I would have to say the the hp gains are there.
P.S.... still running factory manifolds w/cats!

My 4" Mufflex with Spintech is very loud and definitely raspy with no cats and MAC's. I mean window rattlin LOUD!!!!!

I wouldnt recommend it if you have picky neighbors. With a VIG3200 I have to give it just enuff gas to get to the rasp.

Flows excellent tho. I think I am gonna sell it tho....I am gettin too old for it and I live in a nice hood now.

Later, Stu

I can only comment on what I have had/heard in person:

Borla - decent exhaust, most people like the plate feature (but pointless if you also have a cutout). Can rasp like hell with an OR y-pipe.

Corsa - probably the best looking one. Sounds OK (but not out of world) with stock engine and cats. Really, really shines with OR Y-pipe and/or cammed/extra cube motor. Why I have one

Though not on the list - Hooker catback. Sounds good with stock motor. Fairly decent flowing. Not the world's greatest quality.

SLP loudmouth - good with stock engine and cats. Would not recommend it for OR y-pipe or larger cubed motor. Is ticket loud, and you might as well run a cutout.

SLP dual-dual: many swear by it, though I have no direct experience with it. Have thought that other SLP stuff was of cruddy quality.

A buddy and I made sound ajusting plates for his exhaust cut-out. Running a stock Y with cats. Drill holes in the caps. 3/4", 1 1/4. Anything over 2 does't seem to matter.
