For optimun performance yes... but it should run fine without it.

If I install headers and then A-tap what do I want to look for? trying to decide between paying for tuning or going in on Ls1 edit with car club guys. And then hoping we can figure it out.

Ive had headers without tuning for a while and my car has been okay. I'm going to get LS1-edit pretty soon so that I can get the most out of the new cam and ported heads but most people say my car will run fine without tuning. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Confused]" src="images/icons/confused.gif" />

O.K. Here's my story. But first let me qualify this with pointing out that I'm a novice when it comes to performance mods. I installed a MTI lid, K&N filter, SLP LT headers, high-flow cats, and a Y-pipe on my stock WS6. All at once. When I test drove the car it really didn't feel quicker. I bought autotap and a MAFT. My initial reading showed that my car was running rich at WOT (LTRIM around 5% and O2's around 0.965). Based on information I found on this site, I needed to get my LRTIMS to 0% and my O2's between 0.89 and 0.90. Once I did this I found out that a friend of mine had access to a air/fuel meter. We hooked up the air/fuel meter and it read 13.8 (O2's where 0.893). This air/fuel ratio seemed a little high. So I adjusted my MAFT and the next reading was 13.2 (O2's where around 0.93). This was acceptable. The car definately is quicker. Unfortunately, I haven't had any good passes at the track or I would share that info with you. The bottom line is in my case I needed to tune the car after all my installs. Did I make the right choice by getting the MAFT instead of LS1 Edit or custom tuning? I don't know. But for know I'm content.I hope that helps! Good Luck!
