Default Nuzee & OldSStroker thanks

hey thanks for helping me with the timing. we tried going to 10 but it kinda misses. I think i can only go 8. There is probally many mile on the timing chain and has much slack. It as good enough to beat the mustang with 4.10 gears, I put new exhaust system. True 2 1/2 duals just before the axle, no muffler. It works well with the headers. Advanced the timing just a little, and took the front sway bar off. Launched pretty easy and pulled 2 cars off the line and was still going, but got off. not bad for an 82 firebird with intake carb and headers, with over 150 thousand miles. Cam has been order and on the way. Thanks for yalls help. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

it has a 79 camaro 350, and I am putting a compXE 262H, going to port the heads, and change the springs with the cam kit.

XE262H is 218/224 (@.050) and 110 LCA, right?
Using 981 springs? This sounds like a reasonable cam. As far as the heads go, I'd just do some bowl work and a good valve job....but,

If you plan to spend more than about $500, consider upgrading to Vortec (L31 truck) heads. You'll need a new intake, like a Performer Vortec ($160) or RPM Vortec ($180). You could probably score the heads from a salvage yard. A valve job, slight milling and larger spring pockets should be enough. These heads are worth 30-50 hp over what your engine came with, even with moderate porting. The extra compression will help a lot, too.

I think the duration is what you say but, the lift is .462/.469 1300-5600 rpm. My heads are going to be ported for free. I just spent my money for the cam. When I get another car to drive and more money i will put a bigger cam and rebuild the motor. Right now I think I am low 14's. I will try going to a track to know for sure what I run.

I would go with Old Stroker. The Vortec heads are even better if you can get them ported. Those heads are worth 250cfm @ .500 with a port job. The guy has to know what to touch and what not to touch but they would get a 350 up to over 400hp with that cam. The exahust is the same old porting but the intake is a little different.

If your gonna get heads ported you might as well start with a better core. The stock Vortec heads flow about 230cfm and they have a awesome combustion chamber and great swirl, both of those things will get you more power than your heads ported.

BASICALLY I'M TRYING TO SAY IS GET SOME VORTECS! THEY ARE THE BEST SBC BUDGET HEADS OUT THERE!

thanks. When I get more money I will probally invest on those heads. What do yall think about the World Products heads. Are those also a good investment?

For some good flow data, follow this link, then choose "Cylinder-head-flow-bench-database" and choose "Category 1 Small Block: Intake Ports Smaller Than 180cc"

Compare intake flows up to .500 lift. Vortec is even better that World Products, and most others.

Don't spend(waste?) money on more cam when you rebuild. Shop the junkyards for Vortec cores and use your new cam. I think you will be more than pleased (amazed, maybe), even if you don't do anything to the Vortec ports.

Around here on circle track iron-head racing engines the Vortec heads are outlawed because they are so good!
