y-pipe hitting drive axle
But here recently it starting banging really loud. So looke under the car, and right where the two pipe merge into one, its hitting the drive axle. My car
has a pretty big cam, so it lopes quite a bit. Is there anything I can do, befor I give the SOB a nose job??? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Mad]" src="gr_images/icons/mad.gif" />
How many pieces is it? 2?
If it is, your just gonna have to pull down on it. Take your g-load brace off, if you haven't already.
Another option, if you DO have a g-load brace, and your not comfy pulling on it, you can go to your local home depot, and buy metal band clamps. Get 2-3 REALLY long ones and put them together.. wrap it around your Y pipe, then crank it down to the g-load brace.
.... hanging is much cheaper and easier.. done it both ways.
If it's more than a 2 part, you should be able to turn one pipe inside the other to move it down.

Only thing I can suggest is how I fixed
my Y-pipe banging problems. That is, loosen
all of the joints, and get a bunch of shim
material (1"x4" wood bits, etc.) and jam as
much as you can between every close pass of
the pipe and [floorboard, driveshaft, gas
tank, panhard, axle, ...]. Last of all use a
floor jack to push up the low point for
ground clearance. Tighten the connections.
Then pull out all of the shims, you should
have optimum clearance.
Some parts travel more than others, you may have
to redo this again with more shimming in trouble
spots and trade off clearance somewhere else.
Some pipes are just not as well fitted and may
want some strategic "dimpling" to clear; a
little 1/4" bump-in can make the difference in
noise / banging, with negligible impact to flow
if you make it relatively smooth.
