If you could get a spring close, solenoid open, WOT
switch controlled setup that would be hot. I've got
a notion to do this (fake it) on my McCord with the
motor using electronics but it'll still be slow, as all the
gear motor drives are.

I don't know where you'd get a 12V solenoid with the
kind of stroke and strength you need, but maybe
something like a power door lock piece if you can
find one that's free sliding when not energized.
