I don't see a reason to do anything like that. Change your fan settings and you can hold your temp pretty much wherever you want! You don't even need a lower than stock t-stat. I have the hypertech 180, but it is NEARLY the same as stock and with a change to the stock fan settings my temp is perfect. I had a 160 and hated it. In the winter the car ran way too cool, and once it heats up it doesn't run any cooler than the stock t-stat. I swapped it out for a 180 and am very happy. Just get the fans tuned and forget about making any other changes.

140??? u gotta be ****** kidding right? Why the hell would you try that thats way too low. I would suggest that you keep that engine at least at 170F to keep the moisture in the oil burning up instead of running through the internals and causing damage.

Ok maybe 160 then but even if the fans are set to 140 the engine wont run at 140 because the tsat wont be open. if its that bad of an idea how come just about every rear wheel drive car (pre 1990) uses a fan connected to the motor which runs whenever the motor is on.

Good idea!!!!!!!!!!
Although, I still strongly recommend getting a Programmer like the HypertechIII or similar. This will give you a whole new ability to mod your ride to your specific upgrades and such. That would eliminate the need for the fan switch that I suggested. I mean really.......$300 isn't too bad considering the cost of tweeking all the other stuff you'd need to have that same effect.

p.s. The one downside to the progremmer, is that you can only program your ride, your buddies cannot benefit as most programmers limit their use to one specific vehicle. However, your new programmer will remember all the specific mods you've made, so each time you plug n' play, it'll know what you did the last time.

Great advice! I have the DiabloSport Predator (SLP), and in addition adding 20+ HP & TQ I used it to set up my 4.10 gears and fans (185 on, 175 off). I'll use it again to set up 18" rims and tires. Plus you get access to all the SES error codes and what they mean, plus you can delete them if you want.
