Default Finally tested my crankcase evac system

It consists of a modified LT1 style smog pump, two breathers in the valvecovers, and a breather tank. I had been somewhat concerned that it may actually pull enough vacuum to cause oil drainback issues, but I don't think that's the case.

I measured ~3in vacuum in the crankcase with the car idling. I haven't had a chance to see what it does @ WOT yet. I don't know if it will still pull a slight vacuum or not, but in any case I feel it's better than nothing at all (the stock PCV system is looong gone).

I've had my evac system on the car now for about 9 months though. It's all on and working well, so I'm not going to change anything around. If I think about it, maybe I'll hook the vacuum gauge up when I dyno the car, and see what the crankcase pressure looks like under load at high RPMs.

I hooked up something very similar to what you are saying with an lt1 air pump. I just rigged it up to try it out on my motor that has ALOt of blowby. It smoked noticably less at idle, but didn't help at all at WOT. Keep us updated if you have something working well

I just installed a "Krank Vent" system on the car. Basically it is a couple overpriced PCV valves (check valves). I bought the Turbo kit in anticipation of actually getting my turbos from Incon. At idle there is between 15-20 inches of vacuum in the crankcase. I did a couple of short runs and at WOT it drops to between 10-15 inches of vacuum(it will probably be lower on a longer run,but I didn't have time, or space). The oil pressure at idle is a little lower (25 instead of 37 psi) but other than that, it seems to work really well. My only concerns are about the effects of having such a vacuum in the crankcase on the seals, and what it will do to the oil, since there is no longer a large volume of air circulating through the block. It looks like a good setup for racing, but I don't know about long term street use.

Jeff
