What gains with a short belt?

i race week in and week out, ive had 9 ls-1 cars, and the shortbelt is worthwhile, ive picked up less w/$400 parts. generally speaking .05-.1 and 1/2 - 1 mph. by the way, i was the first person i know of to try this mod. when i saw it published in GMHTP by S.A.M., i was floored! i had been doing it since 98, telling no one. that is a fact.

Anyone know what pattern to follow when by-passing the power steering pump? I know the belt part number but I've never heard of/seen the actual belt pattern. Is it easy to figure out? I'm gonna run this Friday and trying for 11's, last time out I couldn't get past 12.0's. Maybe this will break me through!
