Default What gains with a short belt?

What are the gains in horsepower and/or 1/4 mile, when using a short belt? Do you think that it is cheating with the numbers? Some shops advertise their dyno numbers (using a short belt) and others don't.

I don't have any Dyno numbers for you, but I do have a 1/4 mile time. I tried for the longest time to get into the 12's until I heard of it. I was running a consistant 13.1 or 13.2. I must have put in over 20 passes trying for 12's. I heard about the short belt from a friend at the track. He let me take it off of his car at the track and give it a try. I came up with the time you see below, 12.9 at 110 mph. Call it dumb luck, but 12.9's are the norm for me now. I think that the shortbelt gave me that extra umph... that I needed. The belt is a 522K6 Kelly/Springfield from Autozone. Good luck

I've found that the actual gain from using a short belt is from .03 to .05 ET.

We found 4 rwhp on the dyno. IMO, 1/2 mph and 1/2 a tenth!!

Like i stated im my post i gained right at a .1/1mph with mine 2 weeks ago with the same 60fts. before the short belt pass. I have personally seen a guy in a basicly stock 00Z28 gain 8rwhp/5rwtq with the short belt. It works!

The shortbelt bypasses the power steering pump. Its worth about 3 rwhp on the dyno, and about 0.03-0.04 seconds at the track. If you are not a consistent driver or do not have a consistent car, you will probably never notice a difference.

Has anyone removed the a/c belt to see if there was any gain? I know that there shouldn't be any drag since no1 races with their a/c on anyway but I was just wondering is anyone has tried it.

ha ha, if people are dissin on the short belt, youre gonna have an ear-full about the a/c belt. ive noticed a performance gain on both. in the winter i run no a/c belt, its a noticable gain, but not enough to sweat it out in the summer. at the track, the shortbelt took away about 1 tenth in the 1/8 for me. anytime you get one tenth for $10 its worth it.

I've never had any issues... but the longest I've used it was a day at the track and a ~30 mile drive home.

I made back to back passes with and without. My car is usually very consistant and I gained .08 in the 1/4.

I didn't seem to gain anything from it the few times I've tried it...I didn't even bother trying it the night I ran 12.2s, maybe I should've, 12.1s would've been nice.

Even with skinnies on and pumped up you WILL still notice it, it's not impossible to steer of course but it is definitely a higher effort, especially at the end of the track on those 180 degree turns LOL.

I didn't notice much of an ET drop with the short belt, but I think that was due to my inconsistency. What I did notice was bitchin increase in throttle response.
