Default LS6 intake install......now idle trouble!

Did my LS6 intake swap with a Bauer Racing engine TB this weekend. The swap was alot easier than I thought it was going to be. Well I got everything hooked up and did the 10 minute idle on it so the car could "learn" the new mods, but when I had it out for a drive I noticed that sitting at a stop light it would idle very high (1300) for a few seconds and then drop to under a grand. Sometimes the idle wouldnt come down at all.

The car is also running hotter now. I am guessing because there is air in the system from doing the crossovers. I figured out how to bleed the system and will do that today, but I still dont get the idle problem. Any ideas?

Look for vacuum leaks. The most obvious places are:

- Wires from knock sensors (or other wires) pinched under the intake somewhere

- Loose intake bolts (careful not to overtighten either)

Oh yeah....did you remember to plug in the vacuum connection and MAP sensor in the rear of the intake?

I think I might have over tightened the bolts. I didnt not ahave an inch/pounds wrench to do it. Well I did but it started at 120inch/pounds. So I set it at 120 and would turn it until it felt like it was going to click and then back it off one turn. I will have to check for wires in the back tonight.

Can you install the stock TB to see if the idle problem goes away?

There are some set screws that the TB came with to adjust for WOT and for idle on there. But the idle one I have set pretty darn low.

If it's not too much trouble for you I'd still see if the stock TB takes care of the problem, good luck.

I just put an LS6 manifold on but was afraid to do the TB at the same time. Ithought it might introduce too many variables. Any way Ihad to go out and buy a lb/in torque wrench, my other two were no help. IF you checked all of the connections then the bolts are probably over torqued, those gaskets are not very forgiving.

If they are over torqued, is the intake a complete loss or can I just retorque the bolts? I am stopping and getting the right wrench on the way home

I got back home loosened all of the bolts on the intake felt for anything that could have been causing a leak. Retorqued everything back down and it seemed to idle fine except for a couple times it would go to about a grand then fall back to about 850-900 at an idle. I still have a feeling something isnt right though.

I also noticed a very small fuel leak at the schrader valve......have no idea what is causing that.

One of your injectors are not sealed. Pull the fuel rail and injectors, coat the o-ring on each injector with a slight layer of grease(i used vaseline) and then pop them all back in using equal force on both sides. When you hear them "click" into place, press a couple more times in different areas to make sure they seat properly. Then bolt the fuel rail back down.

You may need to pull the intake again to do this. I am not sure if there is enough room under the cowl to do it on the car. When this happend to me last time, I just pulled the intake again to make sure it was done properly. My car did the same thing, so I am pretty sure thats your problem..

If this ls6 has the egr provision alot of times it takes silicone to seal it up properly. Also, my first ls6 intake that I was sent had a broken sensor on the back, the actual intake was cracked and I had to send it back.

Does your new TB have the epoxy in it? I just recently did the ls6 manifold and a ported TB. I did the manifold first, everything ran great, then put on my ported TB, and it won't idle worth a crap! I'm going to adjust the idle screw and hope it fixes it or think about qhat the expoy may be doing to contribute to bad idle, possible the holes not large enough for air to reach the sensors on the TB.
Good luck. Let me know what works for you.

Yes the TB has the Epoxy in it. I am just going to go ahead and pull the whole thing off again and check for any cracks, etc. I just got the call from MTI yesterday that my heads and cam are ready to ship so I have to tear everything apart anyway.

I just finished mine about an hour and a half ago. It idles smoother (and lower) than before, the tractibility of the engine especially from a stop is much smoother. I went into my favorite industrial park and did a full throttle romp from a roll in second gear and my butt-o-meter says it's faster, pulls harder and doesn't run out of steam. By 6,500rpm in 3rd, I was somewhere between 90-95mph. Compared to before at the top of 4th, I was bouncing off the rev limiter at 120mph. So having another gear to go today, I surmise that I could pull past 120 by the top of 4th.

Also, I custom did fit my EGR in with the adaptor that Lingenfelter sells. I JB Welded it in, so I don't foresee it leaking anytime in the near future. The plenum itself will crack before that seal breaks. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
