Default open headers question

my buddy is going to install cutouts right after each header. would this pose any problems on a stock cubed car? right now its stock internals with a decent h/c combo next year. the headers are grotts i believe.

It has been proven you need to have 12 to 18 inches of pipe after the headers. This is so that the front 02 has the proper amount of velocity and turbulence to get a good reading.
This information has been proven by GeorgeC.

Instead of running cut outs why not run two bullet mufflers with turn downs that would bolt right onto the headers?

I realize that bullets with turndowns are loud, but they aren't as loud as the cut outs will be. What I was suggesting was to flange the headers so that you could run the bullets for going to the track. You would have to remove the main exhaust to do what I was suggesting. By removing the y-pipe, i-pipe, and muffler, you will improve performance and lose weight at the same time.

Suggestion from the guy that sells the QTEC cutout, get a custom cutout fabricated at the bends in the y-pipe, so you are coming straight out of the headers instead of bending it, and you also are far enough from the O2 sensor. I'm trying to figure out how the heck I'd fit it. Can also put the cutouts at the headers (so you can have your cats on which is what I want) and run 12 to 18" pipe, either straight back or with a turndown.....
